Are you on a journey to finding inner peace? But you’re not quite sure how or even where to start. First, what does “peace” mean to you? Here is something to think about when it comes to peace.
Peace - This does not mean being in a quiet atmosphere, free from problems or hard work. Peace simply means being able to be in those situations and remain at ease and calm within your heart and your being. The great news is that globally, society is recognizing what yogis have been privy to for centuries, which is that yoga affords you a path to peace.
Why Is Inner Peace Important?
With all that has transpired over the past few years, a lot of focus on the mental health of today’s society has become the forefront of discussion. Health care professionals are now seeking novel holistic and alternative methods for approaching mental health disorders; as what was once deemed impactful by only a few, is now realized to be impacting many more people, however, on varied levels.
Most people in some way have been affected by mental health, either personally or through a loved one, whether it’s related to stress, depression, or anxiety. And in the current tech-driven and fast-paced world, mental health seems to be more important than ever.
What Does Yoga Have to Do With Mental Health?
People and health professionals have now begun to recognize that the benefits of yoga are much more than physical, the benefits of yoga are also great for mental health as well.
Did you know that studies have shown that yoga is associated with mindfulness, and mindfulness is linked to meditation, and together this practice has yielded great results for people and how they handle daily stresses? Additionally, what were once topics of taboo, such as anxiety and depression, are now being discussed more openly.
Peace On the Mat
When you practice meditation and yoga, you start to feel less steered by your responses to certain situations and more in control of your life. Through yoga, it can take you out of your head and more into your body. This provides you with a better understanding of your feelings and where tension is being held.
Additionally, breathing and mindfulness meditation are equally important for your mental health, and can literally transform the brain's structure, thus enhancing one's thought process and behavior. If you use these practices on the mat, it's more likely that it'll be easier for you to tap into them in your daily life.
Peace Off the Mat
Yoga affords you a way to remain calm, in control, grounded, and at peace. One great challenge to mental health is simply trying to avoid getting caught up in the stressors of daily life, whether it is work, family, or friendships.
Is Inner Peace Your Power?
Acquiring peace is within your power. But how do you explore peace as your power? Simply consider a daily mantra or positive affirmation.
Keep it based on the "peace" theme. For instance:
‘I have a feeling of love and inner peace with each breath’. You see, when you recognize your breath, no one can snatch your inner peace.
Meditation Tips
Find a quiet atmosphere. Free from distraction.
Don’t meditate on a full tummy to avoid dozing during practice.
Allow your thoughts to effortlessly pass by, as meditation done right is effortless.
Relax and meditate for 10-20 minutes. Take your time opening your eyes, but stretch lightly with closed eyes to aid in gently easing yourself back into operation.
Meditate with peers. Consider in-person or virtual meditation to increase positive vibes while also helping you remember to practice regularly.
Movement is important before meditating. Consider a short walk, light yoga, or any other physical activity to relinquish repressed energy, restlessness, and tension for a more mellow meditation.
Conclusion
Making meditation a priority is a great idea. Consider practicing regularly, at least twice daily. You can look forward to finding the calm and the peace that you desire and practicing yoga can be an outstanding avenue to acquire these benefits.
